I’m in Japan between June and September. What are some good festivals I should take part in while I’m here?

    Hi Yoshito,

That’s a fantastic period to experience some of Japan’s vibrant festivals! Here are a few recommendations:

    1. Gion Matsuri (Kyoto, entire month of July): It’s one of the most famous festivals in Japan, with the grand procession of floats on July 17th as the highlight.

    2. Tenjin Matsuri (Osaka, July 24-25): Known as one of Japan’s three greatest festivals, it includes boat processions on the Okawa River and a fireworks display.

    3. Aomori Nebuta Matsuri (Aomori, August 2-7): This features huge, lit-up floats paraded through the city, accompanied by traditional music and dancing.

    4. Kanto Matsuri (Akita, August 3-6): Here, performers balance long bamboo poles with lanterns attached to them, in a beautiful and impressive display.

    5. Sendai Tanabata Festival (Sendai, August 6-8): The city is adorned with colorful streamers and various decorations, celebrating the Star Festival.

Remember to check the exact dates and details closer to your travel time, as events can sometimes shift due to various factors. Each festival has its own unique charm and they’re a great way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture!

    Enjoy your time in Japan,
