    Hello everyone,

Here’s my story of how you don’t need to change careers or become a business owner to work online or travel.

I’ve worked for the same company for over 20 years, most of them in the office. But now I travel where I want, work my own hours, and still have a great working relationship.

For those of you that work a job mostly on a computer, this dream may be more achievable than you think.

One day I was in the car on the way to work, angry with peak hour as I always am, and realised how nonsense this all was. Why was I commuting to a computer at work, when I have a computer at home and a laptop?

I knew I had sway and was relatively irreplaceable at my company and all my bosses loved me, so I brought up working from home with my boss.

For reference, I’m an engineer and spend all my time designing in CAD, so I really didn’t need to be in the office anyway.

My boss agreed to try it out after some convincing about increased productivity and because we’re also good friends, but only for a few days a week at first.

This is how I’d go about it, don’t thrust them into working remotely, ease them into it.

After my boss agreed I made a conscientious effort to get even more done than I do during my days in the office and after 6 months I was working from home permanently and only needed to come in once a month for meetings.

Now, I not only work from home, I work from anywhere.

Not only is this lifestyle possible, there are many different ways to make it happen.

Congratulations on your success mate! It is great for people to know that you don’t need to quit your job and risk creating a business to be free. The 9-5 isn’t so bad when you can do it from paradise <3

Exactly. You don’t need to “be your own boss” to have freedom. And there’s a lot less stress not having to find your own clients!

I’m self-employed but wish I knew earlier I didn’t have to struggle as a freelancer initially, and could have worked for someone else while still having freedom to travel.

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

    Congratulations on your success 🙂
